How it works

The technology

ElectroChemicalGeoOxidation (ECGO) is a patented and proven technology, there clean soil and water contaminated with the most known organic substances. The process are used In-situ and On-site, reacts quickly, are suitable for developed and urban areas and are costeffective.

The process

ECGO uses a predefined electric current addressed to electrodes driven into the ground for quick to treat a long row of organic and inorganic connections. 

When organic pollutants are being treated, the electric power creates oxidation – reduction (Redox) reactions, which lead to a total mineralization of organic constituents, i.e. carbon dioxide and water.

The soil conductivity, geology and underground hydrogeology of the place decides the size and intensity of the induced DC power, for precise to control and maximize the decomposition of the contaminants.

When installed and in operating mode ECGO is noiseless and discrete, which make it very suitable for urban and developed areas. The ECGO process don’t create any wastestream.

The technical details

The electrical DC power is addressed to steel electrodes with a diameter of approx. 6“  (160 mm)  which is driven into the ground in a distance of 24” (8m) to 45” (15m). 

The working depth is only limited by the  force of the drilling rig. ECGO have been used in projects with a working depth of 180” (60m). By treatment of organic constituents the power demand variates between

0,2 kWh to 1,5 kWh pr. Ton of soil. The electrical DC power is delivered by specialized AC/DC converters.

ECGO has successfully treated organic pollutants in soil and groundwater, as well as in liquid and slurry wastestreams several places.

ECGO is effective to a long row of organic pollutants such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX), MTBE, TPH, PAH, halogenated VOC, chlorinated compounds f.ex. pentachlorophenol, hexachlorobenzene, PCDD, PCDF, pesticides, softeners such as Phthalates, nitrogen based connections such as cyanides, pyridine, piperidine, explosives etc.

In all projects ECGO has with success reduced the treated contaminants to below the clean-up levels stated by authorities. LNAPL and DNAPL has completely been eliminated. All analyzes are made by independent laboratories to ensure the result and no left behind metabolites after treatment.
